Index Description: This index contains the 2000 smallest stocks in the Russell 3000, itself an index of the 3000 largest stocks in the US The Russell 2000 is one of the better known indexes used to measure the performance of US small company stocks. As of May 31, 2000, the average market capitalization was approximately $580 million; the median market capitalization was approximately $466 million. The largest company in the index had an approximate market capitalization of $1.5 billion. This index is maintained by the Frank Russell Company. The Vanguard Small Cap is perhaps the most notable no-load index funds to track the Russell 2000 Index.
